Spain’s wine region has become a tremendous contender in the last 10 years. The introduction of French Oak into the aging process has allowed Spanish winemakers to offer more elegant styles of wine.
Mencía is a medium bodied grape with wonderful floral and fruit nuances. It’s grown only in Spain and Portugal in what’s known as the Iberian Peninsula. This wine has the ability to age and intrigues Pinot Noir lovers’ palates. You can find Mencía growing in Ribera Sacra, Bierzo, Valdeorras, Beira Interior, and Dão, located on the Western part of the country. Working with very old, thick, gnarly vines creates delicate, mouthwatering, elegant and flavorful reds.
